PRAGUE PARK WALL BELT

Annotation

The current form of the north-south highway in the Florence area represents the largest urban barrier in the wider centre of Prague. This transport structure from the second half of the 20th century, designed primarily for transit car traffic, does not correspond to current ideas about a sustainable and livable city. THE HIGHWAY It separates the historical centre of the city from Karlín, Žižkov and Těšnov. It disrupts pedestrian connections and prevents natural movement between the neighbourhoods. It creates deaf and uninhabitable spaces along its route (noise, emissions, impermeability). It destroys the quality of public spaces – for example, Těšnov has become an inhospitable asphalt intersection instead of a city square.
