The end of the year under the sign of new books about architecture

Architects from the Department of Design Studios I introduced new publications about architecture to the public. At the end of November, Ján Stempel, Jan Jakub Tesař, editor Petr Volf and photographer Filip Šlapal were celebrted their book on family houses. Pavel Ullmann will present his new book Elephant in Architecture on Saturday, December 7 at the Prague Zoo.

The work of architects Ján Stempel and Jan Jakub Tesař has become synonymous with quality inherent in pure forms and carefully elaborated internal dispositions. The book presents more than twenty family houses through photographs by renowned architecture photographer Filip Šlapal. Houses are shown not only in exteriors and interiors, but also in integration into the place or surrounding nature. Everyone has a story, everyone is an original. According to Petr Volf, the author of the introductory essay, the houses from these architects are materialized portraits of their investors.

Pavel Ullmann has been involved in designing the environment of animals for more than twenty years. In the book, he tells engagingly about his experiences with the exciting process of creating architecture for a zoo, about collaborating with zoologists, and about what he learned from animals about architecture for humans. Few of the zoo visitors realize that the pavilions and their interiors, enclosures, parks and the whole conception of the complex are thought out in detail by the architect. This extraordinary publication with many exclusive color photographs brings an extraordinary insight into the backstage and history of designing the zoo and is also accompanied by a number of technical drawings and sketches.
