Ing. arch. Mario Barra

Mario Barra (*1999) is a graduate of a master's degree in the field of Architecture and Urbanism, the Monument Care module at the Faculty of Architecture of CTU in Prague, from September 2024 a doctoral student in the FA CTU Architecture and Urbanism program, focusing on History of Architecture and Monument Care under the supervision of a supervisor, doc. Ing. architect Tomáš Efler, head of the Department of Architectural Conservation FA CTU in Prague (15 114).

The topic of the dissertation "The role of monument care in the industrial landscape of the coal basins of northwestern Bohemia" focuses on a hitherto neglected chapter in the turbulent history of the settlement of the North Bohemian lignite basins, the role that conservation played in the formation of an earlier settlement, of which today we find only isolated remains, but above all at the time of the massive expansion of surface mining, in which dozens of settlements were disappearing, in which there were a number of valuable monuments in the form of churches, chapels, noble and manor residences, farmyards and many others. However, only a fraction was preserved, either in the form of detailed photo or audiovisual documentation or, in the best case, by transfer to museums or nearby towns and villages that were protected from mining through mining limits.
