CONVERSION OF THE COURTYARD OBJECT OF KARLÍN BARRACKS

The diploma thesis focuses on the design of a conversion of a courtyard building within the Karlín Barracks complex. The aim is to transform a formerly utilitarian structure with historical value into fully functional civic amenities. Emphasis is placed on preserving the essence of the building, the character of the site, and its integration into broader urban relationships. In addition to spatial and operational modifications, the design also addresses comprehensive architectural interventions, including adjustments to the structural system, the addition of a new volume, and the removal of certain existing parts of the building. The project also involves the redesign of the large inner courtyard of the barracks, which, like the proposed building, is intended to serve the city. The result is a design that opens a new chapter for Karlín Barracks.
