Studio Šestáková - Dvořák

Architecture of buildings for social services does not prioritize visual attractiveness over functionality and purpose. The approach to its design requires humility and an awareness of the social commitment to the user.

Architecture is about care: for the places it interacts with; for the people it affects; for future generations.

Architecture is a force capable of influencing and being influenced.

• Strive for an inclusive, fairer, and more sustainable future in architecture.
• Design environments that do not hinder people’s self-determination.
• Consider everyday spatial experiences as a valuable source of knowledge.
• Do not be afraid to push boundaries and critically assess outdated solutions.

As the only studio at the Faculty of Architecture at CTU, we systematically and long-term focus on buildings for social services, inclusion, and accessibility. We address these topics both theoretically and through research projects. Each semester, students engage in projects that closely integrate practice, research, and education.

We guide students to develop an individual and critical approach, emphasizing social, societal, and generational contexts in the design process.

During consultations, we focus on building a solid conceptual foundation, spatial and operational functionality, rather than imparting our personal preferences. A structured mix of consultations and thematic presentations is the pillar of our pedagogy, supporting critical thinking and the exchange of ideas.
