26 finalists of the Dean's Award

The juries of the 2nd year of the Dean's Award of the FA CTU have published the final nominations. The awards ceremony and the winners' and runners-up' award ceremony, together with the exhibition opening, will take place at the Faculty of Architecture of the CTU on Thursday, 10 November at 6 pm in the right atrium. This year's novelty will be a statuette whose form was determined by a design competition.

The Dean's Award was founded last year by the Dean Emeritus, Prof. Ladislav Lábus. The award is given by a jury for outstanding semester, diploma, dissertation and scientific research work. In the second year of the competition, the award also recognizes projects of first-year students or theoretical term papers. The composition of the jury also differs from last year, with only external jury members for studio works and a majority of external members for theoretical works. The prize aims to cover the widest possible range of student work produced at the school. The aim is to showcase excellent creative work and to reflect the quality and direction of teaching at the FA.

The Dean's Award is awarded in the following competition categories: first-year studio project, studio project in the categories of Architecture, Urbanism, Landscape Architecture, Design, diploma project, theoretical semester work and science and research.

The awarding of the Dean's Award was decided by expert juries composed of representatives of the FA CTU and external experts appointed by the Dean.

Jury for Evaluation of Studio and Diploma Projects

doc. Ing. arch. Dalibor Hlaváček, Ph.D.

A graduate of the Faculty of Architecture of the CTU and its Dean from February 2022. He is the head of the architectural studio at the FA, the guarantor and lecturer of the course Ecology I. He led a team of CTU students who competed with the solar house AIR House in the international university competition Solar Decathlon in California. From 2015 to 2022 he was a member of the council of the European Association for Architectural Education, which is dedicated to improving the quality of architectural education in Europe.

prof. doc. M. A. Jan Němeček

Co-founder of the Olgoj Chorchoj Studio. His work ranges from glass, lighting, jewellery, industrial design, furniture and urban furniture design to interior design, architecture and urban planning. Over the years, the studio has been awarded a number of domestic and foreign awards. Its works are represented in private collections and major museums. In architecture, activities focus on new buildings and renovations of family villas, revitalization of historical buildings and interior and exhibition designs.

Ing. Tomáš Novotný

He graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the CTU and the School of Architecture of the Academy of Fine Arts, where he later worked as an assistant to Professor Emil Přikryl. In 1993 he founded his own studio. In 2004–2020 he worked as a teacher at the FA CTU. He is a member of the Mánes Association of Visual Artists. As part of his architectural practice, he has participated in the reconstruction and extension of the National Theatre, the reconstruction of the Veletržní Palace for the National Gallery, the Benedikt Rejt Gallery project and the reconstruction of the Malostranská beseda.

Ing. arch. Jiří Opočenský

Graduate of the FA CTU, co-founder of the architectural studio OV-Architekti. In 2012–2013 he was the head of the ZAN studio at the FA CTU and in 2019 the city architect in Libčice. He sits as a juror in Czech and international architectural competitions. OV-Architekti's projects were nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award (reconstruction of the Federal House in Slavonice) and won the Czech Architecture Award 2020, the Architects' Grand Prix 2020 and the Building of the Year 2020 (completion of the headquarters for Lasvit).

Ing. arch. Lucie Vogelová

She studied at the FA CTU and MENDELU in Brno. Since 1996, she has been co-owner of the TERRA FLORIDA studio, which has completed hundreds of landscape architecture projects of various scales; from small details to large concepts. Since 2019, she has been involved in teaching landscape architecture at AVU in the School of Architecture in the studio of Miroslav Šik.

MgA. Markéta Zdebská

She graduated from the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Prague and completed a work internship in Josef Pleskot's studio. Later she founded the BY architects studio, whose projects have been published in Czech and foreign publications. In addition to nominations for the Czech Architecture Award and other awards in public competitions, the studio is part of the author team of the winning design for the revitalization of Charles Square in Prague. She regularly judges public and student competitions and was elected to the ČKA Board of Directors in May 2022.

doc. Ing. arch. Dalibor Hlaváček, Ph.D.

prof. Ing. Josef Chybík, CSc.

He graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Brno University of Technology. After graduation he worked for 17 years as a project designer. Since 1994 he has been an academic worker at the Institute of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Architecture, Brno University of Technology. In 2000–2006 and 2005–2014 he was its dean. He continues to lecture and teach in several subjects. He is a consultant of bachelor and master projects and supervises doctoral students.

prof. PhDr. Petr Kratochvíl, CSc.

Researcher at the Institute of Art History of the CAS and lecturer at the Faculty of Art and Architecture of the TUL. He is mainly interested in 20th and 21st century architecture. His publications include the book Contemporary Czech Architecture and its Themes and Urban Public Space. He has co-curated a number of exhibitions, most recently in 2022 – Out of the Gallery! Art in Czech Public Space after 1989.

prof. Dr. Ing. arch. Henrieta Moravčíková

Architecture historian and critic, professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the Slovak Technical University and head of the Department of Architecture at the Historical Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. She is mainly interested in 20th and 21st century architecture. Her monograph Architect Friedrich Weinwurm won the German Museum of Architecture Award for the best architectural book of the year. Her monograph on modern planning in Bratislava was awarded a gold medal in The International Creative Media Award. She is a member of the advisory board of DOCOMOMO International.

doc. Dr. Ing. Martin Pospíšil, Ph.D.

He graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Brno University of Technology, completed his bachelor's degree in engineering pedagogy at the Czech Technical University in Prague, doctoral studies in architecture and civil engineering, doctoral studies in the history of technology and courses in testing of building materials and structures at the Klokner Institute of the Czech Technical University. He completed his doctoral studies in history with a focus on the history of technology at the Sorbonne in Paris. Professionally, he focused on designing reconstructions of monument protected buildings (1988–2000), then he worked as a state building and monument supervisor (2000–2012), since 2010 he has been an expert witness in the field of construction, specializing in monument protected buildings. He has been working at the Faculty of Civil Engineering since 2008, in 2013 he was appointed head of the Department of Load-bearing Structures. From 2019 to 2022 he was a full member and since 2022 he has been an extraordinary member of the Scientific Council of CTU in Prague. In April 2022, he successfully completed the procedure for appointment as a professor.

Ing. arch. Maria Topoľčanská, Ph.D.

Architect and teacher, from 2022 rector of the Academy of Fine Arts, where she also teaches the theory of housing in contemporary cities. She is a supervisor in the doctoral programme in Theory and History of Art. From 2018–2022 she led the AVU research team involved in the European project Advancing Supervision in Artistic Doctorates. She is a member of the ELIA Artistic Research Working Group in Amsterdam. She is co-author of Undoing Supervision, Bratislava: Atlas of Housing Estates 1950–1995 or Modern and/or Totalitarian in 20th Century Architecture in Slovakia.

prof. Ing. arch. Petr Vorlík, Ph.D.

Architect and historian. He is a graduate of the FA CTU, where he is now a lecturer, head of the Department of Theory and History of Architecture and Vice-Dean for Science and Research. He is mainly interested in 20th century architecture. He is the author or co-author of a number of monographs, chapters in professional books, articles in professional journals; he is actively involved in public debate.
