ART BLOCK - MAYRAU

This project is a space for artists. It’s design is rooted in the concept of cyclical creativity: the understanding that the creative process moves in repeating phases rather than a linear path. The architecture adapts to support each stage of this cycle. In this adaptive reuse, the industrial character of the compressor hall is preserved, with original equipment brought back into use. A new architectural addition extends out the building‘s form, housing the fixed functions required for its renewed purpose. A structural grid is attached, allowing modular pannels to redefine the interior configuration according to the different uses. While establishing a clear contrast between old and new, the repurposed and newly added elements pay tribute to Dul Mayrau's coal mining past.
