Assessment of 223Ra radionuclidic purity by extraction paper chromatography

The number of metastac bone treatments with ²²³Ra (T = 11.4 d) is growing and to some extend, ²²³Ra brough significant break-through in the use of alpha-emi#ers in nuclear medicine praxis. While the quality of proprietary produced medicinal products is guaranteed by producers, the magistraliter preparaons (individually prepared medicines in specialized pharmacies) require on site validated quality control (QC). The aim of this work was to develop simple method for ²²³Ra radionuclidic purity control, to check whether the radiopharmaceucal preparaon is free of mother radionuclides (²²7Ac and ²²7Th, the scheme of ²²7Ac decay is in Figure 1) prior to applicaon to the paent. Standard methods of first choice, the γ- and the α-spectrometry, are not available at the departments of nuclear medicine in hospitals. And if that methods are available, the addional stuff is required. Thus, we preferably focused on chromatographic methods, taking into account some analogy with commonly used 99mTc-radiopharmaceucals QCmethods.
