Use of textile reinforced concrete especially for façade panels

Textile reinforced concrete is a composite material made from technical fabrics and fine grained concrete. The most common reinforcement meshes are made of alkali resistant glass. So far, only few applications have been realized – mostly footbridges and facade panels. The largest footbridge was built in 2010 in Albstadt-Lautlingen in Germany. TRC facade panels were used e.g. on the new building of the Faculty of TU Dresden or on the new facade on building of RWTH Aachen. TRC can also be used for strengthening of concrete elements. The main advantages of TRC are the low weight and non-corrosive character of textile reinforcement which enables to reduce cover layer and thus it is possible to design subtle structural elements.
