Unconventional methods of Increasing Fatigue Resistance to the Tooth Flank Pitting-Hardened Surface Modification or Coating Application

The parameters of gearboxes are determined in large measure by the quality of individual mating gears. Cementing and hardening is the most used technology in gears production because this technology lead to the optimal results from the point of view of fatigue load of the gear tooth flank. Hardened surface modification of the tooth flank and the application of a suitable coating are nowadays two of the most perspective modern methods for fatigue resistance increase of toothed gears. Hardened surface modification of the tooth flank may be achieved by application of ion implantation. Moreover, IBAD and PVD represent another modern coating process.
