Soluble salts' crystallization is the main way of decomposition of some structural materials. This mechanism is based on the fact that as soluble salts' crystal structures form and grow, they increase the pressure; the mechanism depends on the particular salt compound and on the pore sizes and layout. For the analysis of changes of some specific qualities caused by the on-going processes, the destructive impacts on the stone surface have to be taken into account - these effects may significantly affect the measured data.
