Kurz: Scientific Writing
In the upcoming semester, the Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague, jointly with the National Library of Technology (NTK), will provide a course on Scientific Writing in English. The target audience of the course are Ph.D. students and postdocs of CTU, though academic staff are also welcome. The time commitment is two hours per week plus about one hour of homework per week. The course will start on Thursday, 20 February 2020, in the lecture room PC01 on the 3rd floor of NTK. There is no course fee for participants affiliated with Czech academic institutions.
Scientific Writing in English is recognized as an official Ph.D. course at the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Therefore, you can include the course in your individual study plan in the KOS system at any CTU faculty or institute. Please refer to the course grading policy at http://bit.ly/3aTW39L for additional details.
If you are interested in attending the course, please fill out the application form available a
To avoid any misunderstanding, we would like to emphasize that all course participants should fill out this application form, independently of whether they register in KOS (those who take the course for credit) or not (those who take the course just to improve their writing skills).
The available capacity of the course is 25 participants in group A (from 11:10-13:00, exceptionally from 13:00 to 15:00, but this will happen only once during the semester) and 25 participants in group B (classes 14:00 to 15:50). The application process will be closed on Monday, 17 February 2020, at 23:00. Afterward, we will inform you whether you can attend the course or are placed on the waiting list. If the demand exceeds the course capacity, preference will be given to doctoral students who are registered in the KOS system or take the course for credit, and all other participants will be admitted on the first-come-first-served basis (i.e., in the order in which they submit their electronic application).
Please note that the number of potential participants may exceed the course capacity. We therefore kindly ask you to register for the course only if you are sure that you will be able and willing to attend it on a regular basis.
Best regards on behalf of the course organizers,
Faculty of Civil Engineering
