λήθη (lethē) --> (Mythology) The river of forgetfulness in the underworld, whose waters cause souls to forget their past lives before reincarnation from Ancient Greek λανθάνω (lanthánō, “to make a mistake”) "Man becomes conscious of himself and his humanity only in society and only by the collective action of the whole society" Lethe is not merely a prison, it is a proposal for a different kind of justice. Inspired by the ancient river pf forgetfulness, our design seeks not to erase the past, but to soften it - offering inmates the chance to reconnect with themselves, others and the world beyond the wall. Anchored in the belief that humanity is realized only through community, this medium-security facility of 360 inmates reimagines incarceration as reintergration.
