Experimental Determination of Mechanical Properties of Textile Glass Reinforcement

EXTENDED ABSTRACT Within the solution of this research project mechanical tests of samples of textile glass reinforcement were performed in the Klokner Institute. These tests will be used for the determination of modulus elasticity of textile glass reinforcement and the determination of maximal stress at samples. Both mentioned quantities are necessary for the further modelling of structures and for the design of elements made from textile reinforced concrete (TRC). In total 10 samples made from one piece of 2D net (product of V. FRAAS, GmbH, Germany) were tested. The textile glass AR-glass reinforcement (alkali – resistant glass) with fineness 2400 TEX [g/km] that is commonly supplied in size of 1 x 2 m was tested. First the 5 samples were prepared in direction of warp (direction of the load-bearing reinforcement) and then remaining 5 samples were made from the transverse direction (weft direction). The preparation of samples consists in a cutting of testing samples from 2D net to the shape of the longitudinal element of the length of about 400 mm. The prepared specimens were subsequently provided with two-component sealant at their ends. The finishing was modified to the surface that after hardening facilitates a fixing into jaws of a loading machine. Plates of the jaws of the testing machine were provided with an anti-slip adjustment. It was done mainly to prevent the pulling out the sample during the tensile test itself. Deformation sensors were subsequently attached to this way fixed samples and the samples were loaded by s constant force increase up to the collapse. Then the modulus of elasticity of textile glass reinforcement and stress at strength limit were determined from the monitored data.
