Transient method for determination of water vapour diffusion coefficient of building materials

Ing. Radka Navrátilová, Ph.D.

A fast transient method for measuring water vapor diffusion coefficient under isothermal conditions is presented and tested in the measurements on lime plaster samples that found use in restoration of historical buildings. The measured results are compared with those obtained by a commonly used steady-state method. The agreement of both methods is found to be within 10% which makes using the new method prospective. A reasonable accuracy is achieved with a remarkable shortening of the measuring time.
