Computer-Aided Design Support of Well-Structured Graphic Representations in Architectural Design

prof. Dr. Henri Hubertus Achten

The design drawing is an important medium if we want to establish design support by means of computers. Architects intensively use graphic representations to communicate their design ideas personally, between professionals, and others. In order to make drawings accessible to computers, it is necessary to understand their conventions of depiction and encoding. The habilitation work outlines research in this area, which investigates how graphic representations are structured and what these structures are, what their knowledge content is, how they can be used to analyse design processes, and how they can be applied in CAAD.
