Anotace
This article focuses on the fundamental role of the profession of landscape architecture in shaping contemporary cities and urban areas. It is also expressing the different perceptions of urban landscape and its position in the city hierarchy in post Soviet countries. Described research will be implemented on the conditions of Czech Republic.

Anotace
This article aims to describe a successful transformation of Pittsburgh´s economy, physical environment and social climate during the second half of 20th century into the one of the Best Places to Live in US at the beginning of third millenium. It provides a general overview about input conditions, key stakeholders and the transformation process in the city and presents an urban renewal case study in South Side.
